“We wanted to create a moment inspired by the movie palaces from the Golden Age of Hollywood. A common feature in this era was the draped proscenium arch. The idea was to create a sculpted interpretation of this iconic element.”
Inspired by a piece of armor seen at the Samurai exhibit at The High Museum of art, our team sewed together over 30,000 1"x2" pieces of brass, creating a metal fabric. This fabric was then draped and sculpted to create the feeling of proscenium drapery.
There is an outer sculptural element that draws from Art Deco designs. In addition to protecting the brass fabric, this feature serves to encase indirect lighting that shines on the brass pieces, creating a golden glow.
